Student Internships

The Chief Magistrate’s Office is offering an internship opportunity for secondary and tertiary students. This opportunity will contribute to the development of future legal practitioners and provide an understanding of the human, social and policy contexts of law and legal practice. Successful applicants will be required to apply legal knowledge to real life situations and analyse the law in practice. Interns will be able to build professional networks and discern career options.

This opportunity is unpaid. Successful applicants may elect to undertake the opportunity full time or part-time.  

 

Am I eligible?

  • You must be enrolled in your final years of high school or studying a relevant tertiary degree at a recognised tertiary institution
  • You must be undertaking this internship as part of your school or university studies
  • You must be prepared to work a minimum of two days (14 hours) per week

 

If successful, you may be required to:

  • Provide administrative support to judicial officers
  • Undertake legal research and analysis
  • Review statutory instruments and draft submissions in response for approval of the Chief Magistrate
  • Schedule meetings and take minutes
  • Assist team with projects and duties
  • Communicate with key stakeholders
  • Source, collate and compile data and information
